Cedric and Wormwood's childhood together
In the "Substitute Cedric", at the end of the episode, Cedric talks about teaching the royal prep students a spell that can turn rocks into ravens. The fandom also noticed this, because somehow it may be implying that Wormwood was a rock before. And I also believe that this is true, or else they wouldn't have put that in the episode because it would cause misinterpretation of their characters- there's a huge chance of this being true.
Cedric knows the spell, which means that he did it before. The only raven we have in the show is Wormwood, who happens to be his familiar. So like. Okay.
CEDRIC DID THE SPELL AND MADE WORMWOOD. It's not like my first headcanon: that they met when Cedric was young and still at Hexley Hall, and someone in the school staff (because it's an advenced spell, Cedric can't cast it) did a spell who would guarantee Wormy's life while Cedric is still alive (or else he would already be dead by now, he's a bird, there needs to have a spell somewhere) because he's his familiar now. I believe that everyone needed to find a creature to be their familiar at some point at Hexley Hall, in the first years (because having an animal assistant is necessary). But at first I was thinking like "no, okay, Cedric found Wormwood somewhere and brought him home, they did the spell and now he's his familiar" but some days later I watched that episode and found out about the "turning rocks into ravens spell"
You know what this means? Cedric literally made Wormwood. He gave him life after a rock. So his betrayal gets more painful and has a whole different meaning.
I guess we can compare this situation to a son turning against his father, somehow. I don't believe that Wormwood sees him as a father, actually very from that. He just thinks that he was a middle schooler who cast a spell on a rock and since then Wormwood is his familiar, that's all. They grew up together, more like brothers or "best (worst) friends" I would say. @shychick-52 has a good character analysis of him in her fic "The Master Wand", that explains that Wormwood's anger comes from the fact that he was just as miserable as Cedric, but Cedric got help. He got out of the dark, but he didn't held Wormwoods hand (wing) to pull him from there too. While he was getting better and being influenced by Sofia to be a good person, the same didn't happened to Wormwood, who was so deep in his hatred, insecurity (not getting other people's approval and believing that just being nice wasn't enough), revenge that he didn't change his mind. While Cedric had Sofia to help him, Wormwood had no one. It was assumed that just because Cedric got better, his raven would get better too, because of couse, a familiar obeys and thinks the same way as his master, right? He could have been saved by Cedric or Clover. But that didn't happened. And I still think he deserves a redemption arc btw, or at least an episode.
But yes, the thought about Wormwood being created after a rock by Cedric it's implied in stf and it makes the whole situation more tense. Imagine how Wormwood was feeling, imagine how Cedric was feeling. Wormwood's reasons are understandable but it's a little weird the fact that he choose to betray Cedric so fast with someone who he doesn't even know yet (Prisma). It was REALLY FAST. He didn't think twice. And it confuses me why he choose to be so many years by Cedric's side, when he could have just ran away like that at any moment. If he always thought that Cedric was an idiot then he should have ran to another master years ago, because as we can see, he doesn't even think twice before leaving him.
When Cedric says something like "what about all those years of friendship" it's not just about their friendship. (Headcanon part) It's about when the whole class needed to turn a rock into an animal to make that animal their familiar, for each animal there was a different spell and all his classmates got the best ones first: owls, cats. He got one of the last ones, a raven, the one no one wanted, just like him.
And he was the only one who repeatedly was making feathers, vegetables, while everyone was laughing, making fun of him and whispering about "him being him" again, looking at him with disgust, asking why he was still trying- and the situation was starting to get humiliating. Everyone had already finished. And after so many tries, everyone looking at him with a judgemental look like he was in the middle of the room (just like how happened at the incident, he remembers that really well), Cedric gave up.
Maybe he watched while his teacher did the "familiar will live until their master is alive" spell in each one of the students, making sure that they all were now officially connected. But Cedric didn't had one, so he was the only one who just watched in silence. His teacher went to him, and as always he told Cedric to keep trying later, which made him feel a little better, but not a lot.
He kept trying, trying and trying after school, maybe at night (Hexley Hall boarding school headcanon time). And when he finally did it, the rock turned into a baby bird, and Cedric started crying out of happiness. He was able to make a real crow- and the baby was just in the palm of his hand making little noises and looking at him with a confused look, with not even a thought going through his mind. The baby raven didn't knew a thing but Cedric loved him already, just like the feeling of getting your first dog but this time with the whole stituation of the spell, Cedric being pressured and judged, and now he finally did it.
He immediately knew that this bird would be his best friend. He was a little weird looking, just like a little fluff ball, but Cedric was a little weird too, that was one more thing that they had in common. And he was so proud and loved his new bird so much that he wouldn't mind even if he didn't had feathers. What happened was that in the next day everyone went to class with their new familiars and Cedric was there with his baby bird, all proud of himself. Everyone saw this and some even thought that he got the bird somewhere, that he was pretending the spell worked just so that he wouldn't make a fool out of himself in today's class. But somehow they proved it was true, or the teacher just simply believed in him, the thing was that he finally had his familiar and the spell was casted on him to make his familiar permanently. And since then he carried the bird everywhere.
He gave him the name Wormwood after the herb. Maybe there was a funny situation with a wormwood and the baby bird involved, and that's when Cedric decided his name. But the thing is: they were always together since their childhood. I'm not really giving a deep dive into their relationship right now, so there's no conclusion to this post, but I wanted to share my headcanon. I made a drawing yesterday and their childhood together is in my mind ever since.
That's what I made (visual representation of the scenes):
I think I'm gonna make more but idk. Hexley Hall Cedric is my roman empire

THIS!! I wanted more scenes like that. Especially after Day of the Sorcerers. The whole time while watching Season 4 I thought there would definitely be an episode with just them, but no :(
I wish we got more scenes of Cedric and Sofia just being together, talking and acting like friends. That scene in "The fliegal has landed" where she asks for his help is one of my favourites for that exact reason! They just work so well when they go back and forth.
Almost all of "Hexley Hall" is like this and I love it so much! Minus when things start going south, they just look happy to be in each other's company and it just shows how well they work as a pair!
#also thanks moony i know which episode to rewatch next#i loved the hexley hall ep#cedric showing off his old school to sofia#recounting his school days#sofia the first#cedric the sorcerer#sofia balthazar#princess sofia#thoughts

After checking out some of @shychick-52’s Tumblr content and seeing that she’s a fan of both Gyro Gearloose from the DuckTales (2017) TV series and Cedric The Sensational from the Sofia The First TV series, I started thinking about Gyro and Cedric and came to realize that those 2 actually have quite a bit in common. Both of them had trouble in their line of work. Gyro was having trouble keeping his robot inventions from turning evil. And Cedric was having trouble getting his spells to work properly. Both of them had conflict with a child who they went on to form a great bond with. Gyro didn’t trust BOYD at first after he turned evil but then grew to love him after he learned that BOYD turned evil in the first place because his old mentor reprogrammed and brainwashed him. And Cedric wanted to steal Sofia’s amulet and use its magical powers to take over Enchancia but then gave up on that after he and Sofia formed a strong bond to the point that Cedric helped Sofia defeat Grimtrix. Both of them had a mentor in their lives who turned out to be evil. In Gyro’s case, there was his former mentor, Doctor Akita, who wanted to use BOYD to wreak havoc. And, in Cedric’s case, there was Grimtrix, the former headmaster of a school Cedric used to be a student at called Hexley Hall, who formed an evil group of magic users called the Order Of The Wand to try to take over all of the kingdoms. The irony of all this is that Gyro is a scientist whereas Cedric is a sorcerer. So, their lines of work contrast each other but their lives and backstories are incredibly similar.

Wormwood and Cedric had so much history. From their days at Hexley Hall together, to all Cedric's time as Royal Sorcerer (not even counting all the times Cedric plotted with Wormwood to steal Sofia's amulet ever since she arrived at the castle). That's a lot of years!! Cedric probably confided in Wormwood about everything, was the only one he ever had to talk to- was the only friend he ever had or allowed himself to get close to- until Sofia came into his life. They've been through so much.
Cedric had already felt hurt and betrayed by him in the episode 'Hexley Hall' (and Wormwood didn't even mean to betray him then), but can you imagine how much more hurt he was by his deliberate betrayal in 'In Cedric We Trust' when Wormwood not only framed him for taking that crown... but gleefully admitted he was throwing away years of friendship just because Cedric had changed since 'The Day of the Sorcerers' (his life, his goals, his priorities; he was free from so much of his demons, bitterness, and hate, and was truly healing and becoming a healthier person) and also admitting he only cared about Cedric as long as their relationship benefitted him (he always saw Cedric as a bungler and a failure just like everyone else, and only stuck with him because of his own selfish ambitions to be the familiar/pet of a powerful, evil sorcerer)??
That had to have been a HUGE punch in the gut to Cedric. It's truly unfortunate there wasn't time during their confrontation scene in 'Day of the Sorcerers' or at the end of that episode for Cedric to react more to that. I absolutely think that once it sunk in afterward, it REALLY hurt him. Wormwood had basically been using him, similar to how Cedric had initially been using Sofia. Cedric always thought Wormwood was a true and loyal friend, but he was purely toxic. Unlike Cedric, he was truly selfish, cruel, and irredeemable.
And I can see Sofia comforting him, and gently telling him that as much as it truly is painful, it's probably for the best when certain people in our lives are cut off when they're not really our friends. I can see her telling Cedric he deserves true friends while putting her hand in his (and Cedric smiling warmly and saying softly "Like yourself, Princess").
And I love the thought of Sofia gifting him with a new familiar (maybe a baby owl) so he wouldn't be so lonely in his workshop.

Greylock was DEFINITELY the Prank Day champ of Hexley Hall! I hc that despite how insufferably annoying Cedric found him (mostly because of their rivalry and because Cedric was often the butt of all his other practical jokes when it wasn't Prank Day), he did love hearing about and/or witnessing Greylock's wicked pranks on Royal Prep!
Greylock was probably pretty popular at school due to all the terrific pranks he came up with on Prank Day! He'd be there every year. Thanks to his and Cedric's little rivalry, though, the two would try try to outdo each other with the pranks. Of course they get carried away, but that's fine since they're supposed to be doing the best prank possible. Greylock loves doing this, of course, and gets sad when one year Cedric doesn't come for Prank Day. He then makes sure that Cedric WILL be there next year (through teasing of course).

This got me thinking a little bit
Because it’s true, as was said, that often our way of dressing reflects a bit about ourselves. Similar to your idea, I think Cedric might have opted for simpler clothes because, in some way, he felt ridiculous wearing something so luxurious when (in his eyes) he wasn’t worthy of it.
I’m not sure how to explain it. It’s as if he feared that by wearing that kind of clothing, someone might mock him because, no matter how grand the clothes, he would never be even remotely grand or similar to his father.
It reminds me of a popular saying:
No matter how well dressed the monkey is, it's still a monkey.
Maybe he feared that if he did, others would mock his attempt to imitate a status he didn’t have.
Of course, also, and the obvious answer, is that Cedric simply has a simpler style since, indeed, he tends to be messy and careless.
Goodwyn's clothes
So, I recently realized that Cedric is, theoretically, dressed like his dad. I was just curious that they use the same tones, although Cedric's are darker.
I was also thinking that Goodwyn likes clothes with more details, for example that robe with a pattern. He also wears hats and other accessories like we saw in Mystic Meadows, so I wondered if maybe because Goodwyn's style is more "luxurious" than Cedric's, he thinks Cedric is poorly dressed.
I'm referring to that comment in Mystic Meadows about Cedric's robe.

Cedric The Sensational: Headcanons
Brought to you by Betta Fish~
Cedric wears gloves for two main reasons: first and foremost, he handles aLOT of various chemicals, herbs, and dubious ingredients for potions. Our lad needs some PPE somewhere, mkay? Second, I'm sure that tower got drafty as fuck- his hands were probably so cold :(
Speaking of hands, I personally think Cedric *could have* gotten tendonitis, or some type of recurring carpal tunnel. He spent his whole life doing repetitive hand motions (using his wand) and I would equate it to artists getting these same conditions for the same reasons. Maybe his gloves could also serve as compression braces-?
Cedric only started to accept his white/Grey bangs once his niece Calista begged her mother to make her hair like cedrics (I don't remember if that was expressed in actual canon if so oops) ((he's still insecure about his hair ofc in this headcanon but Calista changing her hair bc of him melted his cold hard heart))
I just KNOW deep in my soul that he also has grey hairs from stress/age sprinkled into his "normal" dark hair- but it's fine cuz we love a silver maned man 😍
Cedric doesn't really wear any strong scents, if any cologne at all. I'd think he'd mainly smell of soap, old (spell)books, dried herbs/plants from his potions, and have a light chemical smell to him from potion making as well- think like benzene and slight formaldehyde :-)
Calista sees Cedric as a father figure, that's part of why she's so attached to him. I also think Cedric has babysat Calista since she was a baby, further strengthening their bond
Even though Cordelia is overbearing and irritates Cedric constantly, they would absolutely commit crimes for one another- they care about each other so much :') and I can imagine them shit talking their parents as a main form of sibling bonding as adults 💀
Cedric doesn't miss wormwood at all, but he gets lonely without an animal familiar
:( someone give his man an actual decent animal companion please (yes I'm going to be this someone and write a fic about it)
Listen.... I don't think he's ever been in a relationship before because of how othered he was for a majority of his life, but I don't think he's a virgin either. I'd imagine some drunken black out hook up at a hexley hall party
He has and will continue to sleep holding books in his hand (he has also had his nose bonked multiple times with books when he falls asleep reading in bed)
Cedric's sleep schedule is absolutely ass over feet fucked up
He seems like he would drink coffee religiously, not for the taste but because he needs the energy to stay up late working (he probably gets killer headaches in the morning bc of the caffeine dependency)
Cedric with bed head would be so goddamn sexy to see 🫦
Cedric gets so lost in concentration/hyperfixates on practicing magic/brewing potions that he will commonly forget to eat- that partly contributes to him being so skinny and out of breath if he runs too much
As with most Disney villains, I feel like he is neurodivergent/queer coded

What would you think if in the new Sofia the First show, Sofia sees many of the villains at her new school, but they've all had their memories magically altered as part of their punishment? Prisma, Greylock, and Grimtrix, are there as teachers, and even Wriggley, Wormwood, and Twitch, are there as assistants. Sofia questions whether it is right for the authorities to do this.
Yeesh, that'd be scary for her! I feel if that were to happen, it might be a balance between sofia trying to redeem the villains and trying to bring down the people who are responsible for altering their memories. As for what I'd think, I think it's very odd but also interesting. I would love to see greylock more! I'd just love to know way more about hexley hall in general.
If they ever get their memories back to normal, we might get more info on that. I think that greylock should totally get redeemed, I mean we barely saw him being evil at all! We mostly saw him being a fun and silly guy, and I think that if cedric saw him without his memories of their time at hexley hall, or their reconciliation at the jubilee, he would be really sad. I also wonder how he'd react to grimtrix being like that too! I really want to know why cedric had such a bad opinion of grimtrix (yeah he thought he was too good, but he hasn't shown similar disdain for other sorcerers or esteemed figures)
I'm cautiously hopeful for the new show, the fact that they changed the lenght of the episodes from 25 or so mins to 11 is really worrying, if they don't change it I just hope that there's a lot of effort put into it. I hope they have a passion for extending the show and aren't just doing it to try and market to the younger audiences of right now.
#whew that was a long rant#killme.txt#not tagging this as anything stf related because it's just my opinion

S4E1: Day of the Sorcerers Review/Analysis
So recently I got to this episode in the show and not going to lie, I LOVED IT!
I’ve always been a sucker for Cedric’s character and his arc, so it was nice to see this episode essentially become some kind of turning point for Cedric, at least in the bigger sense. It was established as far as episodes like Cedric’s Apprentice and Cedric Be Good that Cedric isn’t without a heart, and this episode is the ultimate dilemma for him, choosing between good and evil, taking over the kingdom or succumbing to his more developed self. God I had some good emotions out of this.
So the episode starts off with the Day of the Sorcerer’s festival, where Sofia is invited to as Cedric’s apprentice to help perform spells. This all takes place in Hexley Hall, where we previously met Grimtrix who tried to steal Sofia’s amulet in Hexley Hall, the episode (confusing, I know). Sofia worries that this time he might make another run for the amulet, but Cedric says he probably won’t due to the various people there.
We get some nice scenes, one of them foreshadows the Mystic Isles (an episode pack/miniseries [?] I have not seen yet but I know Mystic Isles is gonna be relevant soon because I looked at the episode titles on Disney+ already) as this place where magic comes from, and I guess that princess from Wei-Ling and Wu-Chan are also there. Wu-Chan makes sense but honestly idk why they bothered to include the princess for like 3 seconds since they literally never speak of her again after that scene. Maybe when Sofia is running for the secret room but that’s literally it?
Then Grimtrix’s weasel appears and subverted my expectations almost immediately by NOT going for Sofia’s amulet. Like believe me, I was fully expecting the long creature to just swipe that girl’s amulet but the creature just spawns an envelope, likely Grimtrix doing the spawning, with an invitation to some secret greatest sorcerer’s meeting that she gives to Cedric. Cedric, being the guy who bends over backwards at the chance to be called anything but insults, immediately runs for it, and Cedric follows the Shusher ghost thing into that room. Looking back, shouldn’t that have been clear evidence to Cedric that Grimtrix is involved? As far as I was convinced (confirmed properly by the scene where the Shusher traps the good wizards in the library), the Shusher is literally just a 2nd hand of Grimtrix. Shouldn’t that have been a clear sign? I suppose Cedric could’ve overlooked that in his excitement, but I knew from the start that maybe Grimtrix was coercing Cedric into it simply bc the hand was there, can’t get it off my mind ya know? Anyways.
Sofia, wondering where Cedric has gone, follows him into that secret sorcerer meeting, where we find out that Grimtrix is leading the pack (of course he is, I called it!) but we also see villains like that music guy, merlin’s enemy, Greylock, among others. There’s always benefits in watching absolutely every single episode of Sofia the First it seems. Basically, they’ve invented something called the Order of the Wand (most badass name ever btw!) where it’s just a coalition planning to overthrow the royalty of their respected palaces, saying that they refuse to be treated like jesters and entertainers, essentially saying they’re wiser to rule the kingdoms than the current rulers.
Cedric is kinda sitting there processing this, it’s a dream come true! The one thing he’s wanted since season 1, handed to him by the power of the medusa stone! But we see he’s clearly hesitant, due to the aforementioned character development led by Sofia herself. Speaking of Sofia, she overhears that whole plan and wonders what Cedric is even doing there or why Grimtrix would call him for a meeting of evil sorcerers, which leads to a scene where we almost get Cedric confessing to his various stealing attempts but he just kinda shoos her out and gets on with it.
We get THE MOST. FUCKASS MUSICAL NUMBER. EVER!!!!!!!!! Like Jess Harnell my bro THOSE VOCALS WERE SO RAW!!!!! NOT TO MENTION THE VISUALS?!??!?! IT WAS AMAZING!!! The electric guitar in the BG was unexpected and was so good damn it. I really like how you can see Sofia’s dark purple-y shadow (of goodness I would presume) looming around him, and generally the movements and animation, VIVID. The way he threw all those people aside! The scenes with him in the chair! Ackk I love it! SYMBOLISM!!!
I personally see this song as the spiritual successor to Cedric the Great The themes of both songs tie together perfectly, going from a very confident “I am going to take over this kingdom someday, this is me imagining what I’ll do when that happens” to “I have the opportunity to take over the kingdom and achieve my dreams but something feels wrong now”. Also, the note he sang that final lyric “Cedric the great” in this song sounded literally the same as from the original Cedric the Great song, that’s what got me thinking this to begin with. Throughout the song, Wormwood (successfully) argues that while Sofia was nice to him, everyone else wasn’t, and thus everyone else should get the karma, while Cedric wonders if maybe taking over the kingdom isn’t exactly what he’s wanted, now that he has the chance to do it for real.
Cedric also talks about how people had made fun of him ever since he was a kid, and I believe that’s essentially the entire reason why he’s ever wanted to take over the kingdom. Sure, power is a bonus, but he’s always had magical power, but he’s never had someone who believed in him. To me, it’s been quite clear since the beginning that his main motivation was not truly power, but rather respect and authority, someone who can’t be made fun of. While other members in the Order of the Wand want the power and control of being Kings/Queens of their respective castles, Cedric seems to want the respect and dignity. Even in the musical number Cedric the Great, it’s obvious that that’s his main goal. Lyrics in that song like “…But that won’t last for long”, “those who used to tease me will be at my command” and “Soon everyone will know my name” feels more motivated by wanting to be known, and living up the expectations of the royal sorcerer family.
My Evil Dreams lyrically contrasts with “But now the day has come… so why am I so gloomy…”, “but I’m not sure I want them to”. I also like the lyrics about his dreams being his friends when he was alone and his schemes making him feel like he had a home. So essentially there’s the crux of him being evil: filling the void of no friends (because of how bullied he was) and no home (yeah I wouldn’t have a home either if my own parents and family didn’t fucking believe in me). In Sofia, he essentially found those things (home is a debatable one but friends for sure), which makes the evil stuff like a coping mechanism for him being alone. If that’s so, then someone like Sofia who filled that void of evil schemes and dreams, brought him some new purpose, to an extent. Should he go back to his old ways or revel in the new is the question, and it’s VERY compelling.
Over the rest of the episode, we get to see Cedric taking over the kingdom, and then there’s this scene where Sofia spies Cedric talking and laughing to Grimtrix, who tells him good luck with the kingdom takeover or something. Sofia confronts him and Cedric, having already made up his mind, admits to Sofia that he’s always wanted to go through with the plans of taking over the kingdom and Wormwood even adds the bit that Cedric has been plotting to steal that amulet from the beginning, something I was wondering when it’d happen (in universe it’s been 3-4 years now HOW has no one gotten the hint before?). Cedric ultimately says that Sofia and Cedric were never friends and runs off to freeze people with his Medusa stone.
He goes and freezes basically every guard and royal he spots, and changes up the décor a bit (honestly he’s got some great style choices), but Sofia is determined as ever to stop him. I really like that scene where she floats in on a broom and Cedric points the wand at her and tries to freeze her but is so hesitant that he lets her grab the wand. Like I said before, he still doubts his decision to take over the kingdom, if not for the fear of hurting the only other person who’s ever really seen him in a positive light.
Eventually, once his stone is destroyed, everyone unfreezes and Cedric is so cooked, as the kids say. The guards seize him and jail him immediately, which is pretty understandable for an act of treason like that. Sofia, however, is still determined to see the best in him because she saw that he was willing to not freeze her, so that means he must have a good heart in there somewhere. She encourages him to take the stand against Grimtrix and that he does. He frees himself and Wormy (RIP Wormy’s head, bro was head bashed into the ground for freedom’s sake, oof), and goes out to fight Grimtrix. Grimtrix, thinking Cedric was on his side, gave him the wand, thinking Cedric would finish Sofia off, but he double-crosses him and freezes Grimtrix instead, and essentially the plot of that ends.
But then we cut to Cedric on his knees begging for forgiveness (funniest shit ever tbh), and you could tell he was really sorry, but the royal family was hesitant to accept the apology, considering what happened. Sofia basically brings up Amber and her development (yippee Amber arc mention woohoo). Excuse me if I’ve forgotten how, but the royal family just figured out his backstory and realized, yeah, maybe we shouldn’t be belittling the guy who works for us and has a history of being belittled. History aside, yeah they’d serve to be a bit nicer, it took them fuck knows how long to come to that conclusion.
After all that, they let him in to work for the kingdom again, but on the condition that Cedric remembers that Sofia is the only reason he was even let back in and that he wasn’t just banished forever. Bro totally owns that debt to Sofia like he wouldn’t believe.
Essentially that’s the end of the episode. Overall, one of the best episodes in this series and everything about it is so, so noteworthy. I would rewatch this episode again. 1000000000/10, purple robed man did it, he fucked my psyche for real this time.
Shout out to the amazing writing of this arc and this episode that had me bawling over a show made for the 2-7 year old demographic...again!

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character? I have so many. But, one of my big ones is that "The Sorcerer's Secret" is an actual academic theory that Cedric helped name and test when he was 7. It lead to a long time study of Restoration magic under his discipline Master at Hexley Hall - Restoration being one of the only magics he is actually successful with. The teacher Cedric studied under comes from a country that was sought after for magical resources being a "liminal" space between the EverRealm and the Mystic Isles. As such, it was seen as a highly valuable piece of land. Though, the people, not so much. Cedric and his teacher, Fionn Ó Hícidhe, were two outcasts at Hexley just trying to survive in a highly politically charged world in the midst of a lot of chaos and a lot of war. As such, an entire generation of young sorcerers, and monarchs for that matter, are tarnished by the pettiness and prejudice of the older generation. 14. Assign a fashion aesthetic to this character. Absent Minded Professor. He owns 15 of the same outfit. He can't be bothered with actually choosing clothes.
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now? Honestly, I just loved his song. The first time he sang, I was like ... would "Cedric The Great" be weird to use as an audition song? Because, like, not gonna lie, that's *right* in my sweet spot for belting. (I'm a pretty bassy contralto.) It's short enough that I could probably sing the whole thing for some auditions, and the range of emotions are just superb! And, like, this song is fun! The lyrics are surprisingly deep ... dang ... like ... yes please ... if nothing else, I will totally be singing this as car karaoke right alongside "Out There" from Hunchback of Notre Dame and "Go the Distance" from Hercules. (Fully transparent glimpse into my brain.) Now? Now, I just want Disney to hire me to write middle grade novelizations for this series. I'd love to do a full telling of Sofia from the perspective of Cedric for a middle grade audience. Kind of like what they've done with the villain retelling novels for their princess movies, but less AU-ish. I'd really just love to write a novel acknowledging all the real stuff that happened in the show. No ret-conning. No nothing, and just explain it. Explain the emotions. Explain the feelings. Dig into it. But, do it in a way that really allows for depth. Think like Percy Jackson style depth, but with an older character speaking instead of a teen. That will *never* happen. No way are they paying me for that. But, dude can dream right? They don't see an audience for it. And, I'm not a "name." You need to have a following before they let you do things like that. Doesn't matter how good of a writer you might be (and I'm not that good.) I'm decent. But, I'm not Disney good.
(Sorry Tumblr got mad. I think I'd hit word count.)
Cedric for ask game- 1, 12, 14, 25
1. Why do you like this character? Okay. So, ever since I watched Avatar: The Last Airbender, I have been a sucker for a well written redemption arc. However, if I were to get into specifics, I think there's a lot to explore in this character from a literary perspective. He's complicated. Very complicated. His motivations make a lot of sense even if he goes about things in ways that aren't objectively moral. Which, honestly? That is stuff you don't see in children's TV much since Gargoyles or other things from the 90s and early 2000s. He has the backstory and personality of a Shakespearean tragic hero. He reminds me of like if you shoved Macbeth and Hamlet in a blender in the best way possible, and then, somehow, came out with Macduff? IDK how that works, but that's what happened. Secondly, I find him relatable to my literal life. Zuko hit me when I was just a little younger than Zuko's age. I saw Sofia the First, for the first time in earnest, as I approach 30. I am, exactly, the right age to relate to Cedric's personal issues. So, I like him because a lot of the stuff he deals with is the stuff I'm processing in my own life. Aging parents. Trying to repair a difficult relationship with my own dad as we both grow older. Realizing I might not be able to fix everything that's missing there, and trying to walk the line between indifference and cynicism. Check. Trying to form a solid relationship with a/my child and teach them things. (Granted my squish is biological, but still. Check.) Trying to look past my own personal failings to create a better world for my kid and future generations. Check. Trying to look past what people say/ have said about me and others like me to see the intrinsic good in myself despite my nuanced set of identities. Check. Realizing that my kid just existing in my life is what gives me hope to see myself as great. And, maybe, just maybe, that's a lesson I can teach my kid without them having to go through all the crap I've gone through to learn it: we are great because, unmasked, in our fullness, together with others, we are greater than in isolation. So, I like him because it's easy to walk his journey and see some elements of my own life and where I'm at personally. And, you know what? The show does a nice job presenting this struggle. I feel less alone in my own crap when I watch it. I've got a buddy to walk in my adult problems with while my kiddo gets a princess to learn how to be a good person alongside. I LOVE that. It's truly something we both get something out of, which, is, like, SO supremely rare. As a parent, I just cannot express how much I care about that. Bluey might be the only other program I can think of that does "both" as well as Sofia does. Like, I don't know if there are any other fans in this fandom who are parents. But, man ... Cedric hits because *all* of the life stuff he's dealing with is stuff that, like, is so real. Especially the stuff with his parents. Oof. I don't know if any of y'all have had parents age. But, it's a different beast y'all. It makes you think about things, it makes you want to retreat, and it makes you want to fix things - all at the same time. Sorry if that's a lot. But, when we talk about Cedric being an adult, this is what we mean. So, I just kind of fell in love with Cedric's character because in so many ways his story just kept slapping for me from every angle.

Headcanon: Cedric's first love was the previous queen of Enchancia, Lorelei.
I didn't created this headcanon, it has been around the fandom for some time, but I wanted to do my take on it.
TW: death, not being able to have kids, the queen died during the birth of her children, unrequited love, rejection, grief.
Cedric met Lorelei when he was a young apprentice, right before he started studying at Hexley Hall.
It happened when Lorelei's parents (the queen and the king from a nearby kingdom) came to visit the Enchancia castle for political contracts and peace treaties with King Roland I (again, this isn't my idea, it's from a fanfic). They spent some months in Enchancia and Lorelei soon made friends with the children in the castle, such as Roland, Cedric, Cordelia and Tilly, and as much as she loved everyone else's company, Cedric was her best friend and she could always count on him.
School started and Roland, Tilly and Lorelei started studying at the royal prep, while Cedric and Cordelia went to Hexley Hall. Because of the friendship between King Roland I and Lorelei's parents, and also the proximity between these kingdoms, they often travelled to Enchancia, sometimes even to go on vacation and spend some time with their close friends.
That way, Lorelei often spent her time playing with the boys and having girl talk with the girls, Cedric shared the little amount of spells he knew at the time, and they often went to the gardens, it was their place to hang out.
Cedric didn't had many friends, even before the incident. He had an older sister, and she was the closest friend he had, but despite for Cordelia, Roland was always busy with prince stuff and him and Tilly were never really close, so when Cedric wasn't on Hexley Hall with his classmates, he only had Cordelia and Lorelei.
When the incident happened, Cedric was around 9 years old, and his life was never the same ever since. Everyone started to see him as a nuisance, he got dirty looks in the hallways and cruel comments, and those white bangs on his head didn't help him forget his mistake (or who he believed he was- a burden, good for nothing, and the worse sorcerer of his bloodline). Cordelia wasn't so close to him anymore, even still being his sister, she was acting like his father and always pointing out his behaviors and mistakes, so Cedric didn't felt like her friend anymore.
The only person who still saw him for the person he is was Lorelei. She was like an angel in his life. It didn't mattered how many times she saw him failing, for her, Cedric was still an amazing young sorcerer — and friend. While Cedric was constantly bullied at Hexley Hall and Roland stopped being his friend, Lorelei stayed.
He didn't saw her everyday because she studied in a different school and they were from different kingdoms, but they always spent some time together when Lorelei's family came to visit the kingdom, some little times per month, and whole travels around 1 or 2 times per year.
The frequency of Lorelei's family's presence at Enchancia Castle and the friendship she had with the princes sparked conversations about what a cute couple Lorelei could make with Roland when they grew up. And that wasn't a big deal for Cedric, because they all knew, from the start, that Roland and Lorelei would be a couple, whether it was due to an alliance of kingdoms, or even simply because they were very close and would look adorable together. When Cedric was little of course he was a little jealous of Lorelei with her friends, it wasn't romantic at all but rather the fact that he wanted to spend more time with her, since the other children already had enough friends and he didn't. And yes, he knew about the closeness between Roland and Lorelei, but Cedric didn't mind since he only saw himself as her friend, almost like how he felt with Cordelia some years ago.
As the years passed, Cedric continued to be mistreated. The children were growing up and Roland's behavior was becoming harsher towards Cedric. He wasn't a complete idiot, he was still the usual Roland as always, but now he was completely invested in the thought that Cedric was a bungler, and Cedric hated that. Cedric missed their friendship more than anything in this world. Due to the judgments of everyone, even his own family and classmates at Hexley Hall, Cedric became more reclusive and lonely, except for his raven Wormwood who was always by his side. Cedric wasn't rude and always felt less than others, apologizing for any minor inconvenience, but when he was alone he complained about the life he had, he was becoming bitter and reclusive.
Lorelei always tried to help Cedric and convince people to believe in him, but it didn't change his life, especially since she wasn't there every day. She tried to convince Roland to trust Cedric a little more, and also to apologize for the times he was harsher with him, which worked from time to time, but it didn't change the way Cedric and Roland thought about each other. On the other hand, Lorelei was getting closer to Roland and rumors about their romance were gaining more prominence as they got older. Cedric was worried, because despite knowing that Roland was a good person, he couldn't trust him because of the way Roland saw Cedric- even though he couldn't blame him for that, everyone saw him that way. He had concerns about his great friend Lorelei courting one of the people who made him feel so bad, but he knew that because Lorelei wasn't Cedric, Roland wouldn't be mean to her... which reassured him in some aspects, but in others it made him feel even worse.
Around Prince Roland's 17th birthday, King Roland I passed away. Although Roland was very young, the queen did not want to take the throne and neither did Princess Tilly, so Roland was the successor. He always wanted to be king and his family decided to give him that title, even if it was a little too soon. At this age, Lorelai had gained permission to travel alone between kingdoms and only needed to take a carriage, so she visited whenever she wanted. Due to Roland's grief and his new role as king, he was very tired and overwhelmed, and needed Lorelei's help more than ever. They got even closer to eachother and the feelings they were developing for quite some time now were starting to really show up.
Cedric however wasn't any better. His life remained the same and so did his frustration. But now there was an even worse little problem, a problem he had been struggling with since he was 13 years old. He was in love with Lorelei. Cedric felt like she was the only person who understood him, but not only that, she was the only one who was nice to him. Lorelei was like a morning breeze that brought him a breath of fresh air whenever he came into her presence. She was beautiful, polite, kind, and everything about her brought butterflies to his stomach. He had been trying to suppress it for a long time, but seeing her getting close to Roland broke his heart, and Cedric didn't even have the right to complain.
Everyone knew that even though they weren't officially a couple, Lorelei and Roland belonged to each other. Cedric on the other hand was just a newly appointed royal sorcerer, and was an idiot in his own right. He didn't think he was smart, attractive, talented, and he wasn't even royalty. A princess was way out of his league, especially one as beautiful and close to Roland as Lorelei. Instead of mourning his unrequited love, Cedric accepted that this was how it had to be and put himself in his place. But he couldn't help but feel his heart melt every time she hugged him and told him he was the best friend she could ever have.
Cedric kept his feelings to himself and let his friend live her life the way it should be, and the way she wants. He also remained bitter about the whole issue of his social life and wondered if people would recognize his value if he became the king, but how? The idea became his favorite daydream, not only because he wanted others to recognize him, but also to get revenge for what they did to him... and he knew that Lorelei would hate the idea. As he watched her, Cedric imagined what she would feel when she found out what he was up to with the kingdom she loved so much, and with Roland, so he kept that from her too.
While Lorelei strengthened her bond with Roland, Cedric still saw her and they were still great friends. Spending time with her made his mind light and he forgot about the problems in his life. They would stay in the gardens at night looking at the stars and talking about how they were feeling about life, things that were happening in each other's kingdoms, and generally taking a break from the routine. And many of those times Cedric felt like kissing her, ending once and for all what he felt in his chest... but he couldn't bring himself to do it. She wouldn't want to have anything with someone like him, and even if she wanted, she couldn't. Sometimes, in those same moments, he felt that Lorelei wanted him back too, but he knew he was just being deluded.
Extra paragraph (you can consider it part of the story or not): In one of these nights, however, something happened between them. The night was so peaceful and they were feeling so comfortable with each other that they shared their first kiss. The moment was like a dream — but one that Cedric immediately needed to interrupt as soon as their display of affection finished, because he couldn't let it develop into something bigger, and he couldn't let himself believe that he had a chance with her. Furthermore, Lorelei was Roland's and there was no debate about that, even if they weren't even courting yet, Lorelai was not and could never be his. Lorelei apologized to him immediately, knowing how sudden this was, and Cedric did the same. They never spoke about that again.
It didn't take long for the news that Roland and Lorelei were courting to spread throughout the castle and both kingdoms. Everyone loved the couple, even the villagers, and they had everything they needed to be the sweetest royal couple in decades, after all, the people were waiting for their romance to happen for years.
It was around the age of 25 that Roland and Lorelei announced their marriage. Cedric was happy for them, he was genuinely happy for Lorelei's happiness (maybe not for Roland's though), despite pushing his feelings aside. It was during an afternoon that Lorelei went to him to ask to be the best man at her wedding, and despite really wanting to refuse, Cedric couldn't bring himself to do it. She was his best friend and they grew up together. It was clear that this wasn't Roland's idea, because he would never choose an idiot to have such an important role on their wedding — But Lorelei, on the other way, always defended him from Roland. And then Cedric accepted, and the wedding was beautiful.
Roland and Lorelei rode throughout the village in a carriage, complete with rice throwing and music, alongside the commoners who shouted their names in chorus or stuff like "long live the king and queen!". It was amazing to see, and Cedric was happy for them, especially for Lorelei, who looked beautiful in her wedding dress and happier than she could ever be if she were with Cedric.
A few years later, at their late 20s, Roland and Lorelei tried to have successors. They didn't tell anyone about this for obvious reasons, until the situation started to become frustrating, and they no longer knew what to do. They consulted doctors, and Lorelai herself asked Cedric for a magic potion or spell that might just make it work, but it was no use (and, well, that was indeed something unsettling for him to know). Roland and Lorelei had already given up, and soon after, Lorelei simply started having dizziness and symptoms, and then they discovered that it was true, they were expecting a baby. The entire kingdom celebrated with joy, and Cedric, even though it hurt a bit, also did. Lorelei was very happy, and for that, he was glad.
Time passed and several months later, Lorelei went into labor. It was a very complicated procedure for the doctors who were present, of course. They suspected something wasn't right as soon as they started, and after a very difficult and painful afternoon, she had two twins, one 7 minutes apart from the other. She saw her two children and was so happy to have them, and the names she was previously deciding on whether she would have a boy or a girl were now both being used. King Roland was called and some other important people too, like Tilly, Baileywick, the former queen, and Lorelei's family, who were informed about the labor a few hours earlier. Everything was going great, but then Lorelei kept complaining of constant pain, and she wouldn't stop bleeding.
The meeting for the birth of the heirs, then, became something darker than it should have been. The doctors examined her and found that she was bleeding too much, and that unfortunately, they couldn't do anything. Maybe in another time, where medicine was more advanced, but not in Enchancia yet. They informed her and her family that, with the way it was going, Lorelei would not survive until tomorrow, or even until that day's night. The gathering for the birth of the babies became a condolence gathering for the Queen on her deathbed. That's how Cedric came slamming the door, and running until he knelt next to Lorelei. She was pale as a ghost, as if the joy on her face had disappeared.
With her lying there, on the verge of death, Cedric wanted to tell her the truth, but he couldn't. He couldn't do that, even if the room was empty and there were only the two of them there. Cedric couldn't see her like this, and after saying goodbye to her, he returned to his tower at dusk because he couldn't stand there and watch her die. And then, as the doctors said, Lorelei died as soon as night fell.
Cedric looked for many to blame. At first, Cedric had hatred for the twins, because if it weren't for them tearing her body in half, Lorelei would still be alive and full of light. But after his conscience took over, Cedric understood that it made no sense to be angry at such innocent beings for an unfortunate incident, especially Lorelei's children, who she loved so much and wanted so much to have. Instead, for a time, Cedric hated Roland, because if there hadn't been this miserable tradition of always having to create heirs for the throne, Lorelei would still be alive too. But in the end he knew that this was stupid too, since Lorelei always loved children and wanted these babies so much.
He was angry with Roland, but that's always been the case. He wanted to blame him for all the problems in his life, but he knew he couldn't. Roland didn't know that his wife would die too, and he also loved her as much as Cedric did. In truth, there was no one to blame in Lorelei's death, and things happened simply because that's life. It took Cedric a while to accept this, but he did.
(And if at the time he ended up finding out that Lorelei was only pregnant because Roland made a wish at a wishing well, even though he knew she was incapable of having children, Cedric would have had a big fight with him. Not a fight of words, but one of shouting, pushing, punching and who knows even worse. It would be a violent fight where at least one of them would be bedridden, and in Cedric's case, in the dungeon).
Over time, Lorelei's absence in his life was painful, but it certainly eased as time passed... However, on the other hand, unfortunately now Cedric was alone with Roland's (and the whole kingdom) ignorant comments. He had no one else to find comfort in, no one to understand him, just Wormwood- the crow, and only friend of his for a long time. Increasingly lonely and increasingly distant from social life, Cedric became a bitter and sullen sorcerer. The desires he always had to take the throne remained stronger than ever, and he always tried to find a way to achieve them, while he sank deeper and deeper into his loneliness and unhealthy habits, which he always had too, but which got worse after Lorelei's death, and he didn't even notice.
Cedric didn't like spending time with the young princes, both because he didn't like children, children are to messy and he can't stand loud cries, he didn't get along with them and the king's children reminded him a lot of Lorelei (and her death). As time passed and the wound healed, the reasons became more about the fact that he didn't know how to deal with children, despite sometimes seeing the queen in some of the heirs' traits.
As he became more and more self-centered and moody, King Roland remarried, this time to a commoner named Miranda, who soon became the queen. Just a week after her wedding ceremony, there was the arrival of the new Princess Sofia and the expectation of a ball in her honor in a few days.
As a gift from her new father, Sofia received the amulet of Avalor, which immediately made Cedric attracted to its magical properties and the use he could make of it in taking the throne. What he didn't know was that this little girl would be the cause of change in his life, and that in her he would have the friend he hadn't had for many, many years.

Lucky Love (2/3)
Pairing: Cedric the Sorcerer x Alchemist! Reader
Word Count: Roughly 2854 words
Warnings: Mental health and emotional abuse mention
Notes: 😳😳 Yikes, this took too long to post lmaoo; hopefully the third installment is finished sooner than this one. I’m sorry to anyone who has been interested in this for its lateness!! For this one I was going for the same story line as the first part, but in Cedric’s point of view; that’s why it seems so similar. Hopefully you guys like it :) Feedback and requests are always welcomed <3 This one’s for my boi @queen-of-british-tea !!!
“The secrets of alchemy exist to transform mortals from a state of suffering and ignorance to a state of enlightenment and bliss.”
― Deepak Chopra
“He wishes he were a skilled poet, it would fit his chosen image perfectly; the poor, tragic, tortured artiste. But he has no talent for words, neither for paints nor music; his uselessness is tremendously total.”
― Curtis Ackie
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Being born the son of Goodwyn the Great, Cedric was destined to have unreachable expectations pushed onto him; his father’s blatant adoration for fame and glory had been clear to Cedric from an early age and, given he was the only son in his family, he knew that he would soon be groomed into his father’s perfect replacement for when he retired as the Royal Sorcerer.
The only problem that arose with that goal was that Cedric was only a child and was prone to making mistake after mistake. He knew he wasn’t perfect, no person is, but why did his father have to mention that fact so much?
It appeared that his father just couldn’t understand the notion that he was a conscience, feeling person though and decided to continue his crude actions anyway. No matter how much it hurt Cedric.
Unbothered by this fact though, his father set out on a mission to make Cedric’s life almost unbearable and filled to the brim with dread over the fact that he would probably never become the royal sorcerer or get the family wand. In Goodwyn’s eyes, Cedric was no more than a mistake that would never be worthy. And at this point, Cedric was starting to believe it.
The days he spent subjected to his father’s emotional neglect and constant taunting when he was tricked into messing up his spells had left him in an emotional limbo that he could not escape from. And who was he to not be affected by this tortuous treatment?
Soon he was counting down the days until he could get away from his toxic family in the castle and attend school at Hexley Hall.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
One upside to Goodwyn, in Cedric’s opinion, was that he was just as skilled a sorcerer that he claimed he was. Cedric wasn’t sure if this was something he should feel more exasperated about, but he knew that he couldn’t deny the fact.
No matter how much he desired to demonize his father.
He had the ability to travel almost anywhere in the span of minutes and that was very convenient to a kid who had a very short attention span. And although he couldn’t travel to vast distances, Goodwyn could certainly get to many places three times faster than others.
Which meant that Cedric could arrive at Hexley Hall faster than all of the other kids and have more time to explore his home for the next seven years.
In less than one hour, Cedric and his father had travelled from the Castle and made it to the gate of Hexley Hall. The clean exterior of the castle was only rivaled by the beautiful architecture that made it the prestigious academy it is.
Wasting no time leaving his father and rushing with his items to the front doors, Cedric was awe-struck by the fact that the inside was even more beautiful than the outside. Even inch of it was designed with a purpose and each piece of art was shown with pride and respect.
And when he saw the warm smiles of the teachers waiting in the hall, beckoning him in, Cedric knew that he could get used to his new home.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After being toured around the castle by one of the teachers, as well as given a brief run down of its history, Cedric was left to his own accord and given a map so he wouldn’t get lost. The map had an incantation that would show him his current location and bedroom, which he thought was very convenient. But he wasn’t surprised, he knew how lost kids could get without proper guidance.
Looking down at the map after reciting the spell, he found a glowing mark on where his assigned dorm was located. Ironically enough, his was located with the rest of the sorcerers, witches, wizards, and warlocks.
Dinner commenced shortly after introductions were made and, after a bout of awkward shuffling, he found a quiet location to eat and then began his trek to his new dormitory.
By chanting the wandless spell to the map once again, an arrow led to his room in the lower regions of the castle where he began to unpack his hefty luggage.
After neatly organizing all of his ingredients, clothes, and books he quickly laid himself down on the comfortable mattress and ran through the events of the day. Although he still hadn't met any friends yet, he was able to get away from his father and analyze the place he’d be living in for a portion of his teenage life.
Putting aside those thoughts, he curled into a fetal position and fell into the most blissful sleep he’s had in years.

Looks about right, Cedric thought to himself as he made his way down to the Great Hall for breakfast.
Being somewhat challenged by wand-based spells, Cedric was relieved to see that he had potions for his first class; it was the one subject that he excelled at and was something that used to calm the nerves created by his domineering father.
So he had no doubt that he would start his days off good with the way things looked on his schedule.
What if no one likes me enough to partner up with me though? he asked himself while ringing his wrists.
I guess I’ll just have to take it one step at a time….
With that thought in mind, he picked up his pace and quickly sat in a secluded spot. Looking around, he found that many people had already begun making friends. And, although this was a troubling notion given he had yet to meet anyone, he had hope that he would meet at leat (one) person that would approve of his company.
There has to be at least ONE person who will like me right? he questioned while gazing around the expansive room. Looking to the section where all the alchemy students sat, his eyes stopped on a girl with the most adorable (h/l) haircut and beautiful disposition.
Neptune’s Nettles they were gorgeous...Hopefully I share some classes with her. Blushing, he looked back down at his breakfast and waited until it was time to head to his first class session of the year.
--------------------------------------------------
Nice! Cedric thought. I’ve got the first pick of any seat in the class!
Looking around, he found a spot that felt just right; it wasn’t too far in the back and was just enough to be in the front and in a corner.
Smiling smugly, he sat down and began to unpack all the necessary items listed on the board in front of him.
Humming to himself, Cedric slowly stopped when he heard a series of footsteps approaching the classroom.
Thinking it was just the professor, given how early Cedric arrived, he kept his head down and decided to begin labelling the items in his journal.
That is, until he felt a tap on his shoulder. Whipping his head back, he stared dumbfounded at who was standing behind him: the girl from this morning!
Oh goodness, what if I’m sitting in the spot she wants?? What if she has some sort of beef with me already?? Oh dear, I’m gonna throw up..
This thought process continued until you let out a shy, "Do you mind if I sit next to you? I like the feel of this corner and you don't look half as bad as the rest of our class. Plus, I haven’t had much luck making friends."
OH, he thought, That’s not what I was expecting. Trailing his eyes to yours, he searched for any sign of this being a lie but couldn’t find any.
Softening his features, he opened his mouth and let out a:
"Really?....I suppose I don't mind."
He cautiously lifted his palm to you and said, "My names Cedric. I'm coming here to become one of the next Royal Sorcerers. What about you?"
With a firm grip, you shook his hand and settled down into your seat next to his. Watching you take out your schedule he heard you reply, "(y/n) Erwin! I'm studying to become the Royal Alchemist!"
Gripping your chin with an inquisitive look, you added a quick, "You wouldn't happen to be related to Goodyn the Great would you? I thought I recognized you at first, but I couldn't quite place from where…."
"Uhm….Yeah, I am. D-did you live at the castle as well?"
Analyzing you, he tried to remember times in which he would have seen you, but none came to mind. Which wasn’t surprising given he had all of his time stolen from either the prince or his father.
His thought process was halted though when you looked at him and said, "Yep. My dad's the Royal Astronomer, so we get to live with him at the castle…..I've seen you around you know….I always meant to say hi, but your dad and sister seemed to take up most of your time."
He rubbed his wrists anxiously and let out a, "yeah, they tend to do that…...but I digress. Do wanna compare schedules? I don't have any friends either, and y-you don't seem that bad as well…."
Looking down at the schedule you held loosely in your hand he noticed that it didn't seem so far off from his. You were both new to the school after all, so it made a tad bit of sense but luckily you both wouldn't have to split up very much for the next couple of years.
Schedule: Year One- Semester One
Student: (y/n) Erwin
Study: Alchemy

Class One: Potions
Class Two: Intro to Alchemy: The People, The Places, and The Items
Class Three: Intro to Magic: Wands and Guidelines
Class Four: Gnosticism, Occultism, and Esoteric Beliefs

Class Five: Magical Creatures and The Human Spirit
Dinner
Surprisingly, it seemed as though you would be seeing a lot of each other. Which didn't seem to bother either of you that much. After confirming your new friendship and planning your day out together, you both set up the rest of your supplies and began your first class of the day.
----------------------
After cleaning up your respective area of the shared potions table when class ended, Cedric reminisced on how well the class had actually gone. Despite both of you being new, you and Cedric seemed to work in a sort of synchronized state. Even your teacher pointed out how good you two were together. This had made Cedric feel elated, it was the first praise he had gotten since leaving his father; that alone made him feel on top of the world. Even more so when he took into account that he gained a friend and intellectual equal.
Picking up the last of his mess, he gently put his bag over his shoulder and looked back to you waiting for him at the end of the desk.
You looked up and down and asked slowly, “Would you mind if I sat with you in our other classes as well today? I’m not really…..friends with anyone else here yet and we seem to make a good team. Plus, you seem really sweet.”
“I’d love to!,” he said in an excitable raised voice. His face broke out in a flustered blush at how desperate he sounded and quickly let out a, “I mean, if that’s what you want to do…”
To that, you chuckled and lightly punched his shoulder saying, “Of course I would you dork. Now let's hurry up so we can get the best seats in our next class."
--------------------------------------------------
After that day, the two of you were like two peas in a pod. Whenever you both had a class, were going somewhere, or ate, you were attached to the hip. Even teachers knew that, if they couldn’t find one of you, they wouldn’t find the other either as well.
For you two, there was never a subject left unstudied, never a prank left undone, and never a conversation left undiscussed.
It started off with you both teaming up in your shared classes, meeting for meals, and talking on the way to class, but soon branched off outside of school.
With coaching from you, and years of positive reinforcement on your end, Cedric had been coaxed out of his hesitant and neglected shell. All it took was one fond look and a caress of his hair from you and Cedric was turned into mush. The love you showed him through the years made him see that not everyone was out to get him. And not everyone was untrustworthy.
In summary, you brought hope in humanity back into his life. Something that he surely would have gone off the deep-end without.
To others, it seemed as though you had put him under a spell and transformed him into a new man; Cedric had never felt so confident in his life.
Especially since he never had anyone to support him. Until you, that is……
-------------------------------------------------------
Year 7 at Hexley Hall
Flicking your wand in a cursive “J” formation while pointing your wand at the painted black stone, Cedric watched as you whispered, “Avifors.”
Within seconds, the rock you had been pointing at morphed in size and began to take the shape of a sleek, black raven that immediately began pecking the tip of your index finger. It cocked its head at you and turned to inspect Cedric.
Cedric, gazing back at the bird, looked absolutely stunned at the sight of this seemingly never-heard-of spell and immediately began to shift his eyes to you and then raven. He wasn’t sure where you had learned that, since you were only taking alchemy classes, but he was beyond interested in knowing.
“Merlin’s Beard! Did you make that spell up all on your own?”
“Not exactly,” you chuckled, “My father and I worked for days to come up with the correct spell and paint concoction when I was a child. But it worked out, and now I have a way to create any type of bird to do my bidding!”
Setting his chin in his palm, he began to gaze fondly at the scene in front of him and think about all the things he has yet to learn about you.
“Would it be alright if you taught me that spell? I know it’s yours and everything….. but it’s too bloody brilliant to be left unpracticed.”
“Sure!.......I'll write it down for you by tomorrow.”
That confirmation made his heart swoon and a grin break out on his face. Yet another thing that would bring him closer to you. He knew that this spell was very special to you, so you being willing to show him it reassured him that you cared about him as much as he cared about you.
He was willing to do anything for you and perfecting your spell was one of the best ways he could think of to honor your spectacular intelligence.
-------------------------------------------
When night revealed itself and Cedric was tucked away trying to complete his assignment, he began to reminisce on the time he spent with you that day. He knew how special that spell was to you, and knew that you sharing it with him meant something. Right?
After all, you didn’t share personal things like that with just anyone; even he wasn’t privy to most of your private thoughts and feelings. Up until recently that is; you had begun to reveal more and more about yourself to him and, honestly, it made Cedric finally feel special and worthwhile. Which did NOT help the fact that he had been in love with you for the last five years.
And thought Cedric knew that he had to confess soon, he needed to know if you felt the same before he ruined whatever it was that you two had going on right now. If you didn’t reciprocate his feelings….that would make everything pretty awkward….Which wouldn’t help his situation out too much.
At least it would give him some closure....
He had been with you at every step of the way through your years at Hexley Hall, and he knew that you would be there for him for days to come. Working at Enchancia’s castle wouldn’t stop the bond that you both had formed over the years; it would only make it grow. Which it what he was hoping would help you develop feelings for him.
With each other until the end, that’s what you both had promised one another.
‘If only she liked me back,’ he thought to himself, gazing into the spell that he had been too distracted to work on for the last two hours.
With a huff of a laugh, he closed his textbook and laid down to go to sleep.

EXACTLY, you get it. And that's why I said he probably swore the girls to secrecy too!
Exactly, she saw for herself in 'Gone With the Wand' what a "goody-goody" Cedric was and how close he was to the princess (just like Grimtrix already did in 'Hexley Hall'), so she probably shared Grimtrix's feelings that the only way he could be trusted not to stop Grimtrix's cause- or interfere with her again- would be if he were to lure Cedric to their side!
I'm sure she wanted revenge on him (I love the way he was shocked to see her and she just smiled smugly at him), but decided to just be chill about it for now. And before Cedric was the last to arrive, I absolutely believe that Grimtrix told the rest of the invited wizards already gathered that they were just waiting for "one last special guest", so they knew Cedric might show up, and so that's why she wasn't shocked and furious to see him there too.

We don't talk enough about how Cedric was completely ready to protect Sofia and Calista. The complete lack of hesitation to give his life for theirs.
He knew exactly what to do, what needed to be done, a part of me thinks he told himself that if anyone were to point a wand at Sofia or Calista, he would step in front.

Academia
Teaching was something that Sofia was quite fond of. It was, at least in her mind, an opportunity to take the knowledge and experience she had gained over the course of her life and pass it on to those who could expand upon it for the betterment of themselves as well as society. She had traveled to academies and universities around the globe, sharing her expertise on everything from befriending magical beasts to overcoming ancient curses. It had become something of a career for her between all of her royal duties and occasional Protector work and she loved every chance she got to impart her knowledge on inquisitive and eager minds.
It was one such teaching opportunity that brought her back home to Enchancia after nearly a year abroad; a lecture usually given by her Aunt Tilly to the students of Hexley Hall about enchanted literature and the many applications therein. It had been a last minute favor, a sudden case of the sniffles preventing the duchess from keeping her appointment. Thankfully Sofia was well versed in the subject after having spent nearly two decades as the keeper of the Enchanted Library.
There hadn't been time to inform the school of the change and that meant no one, not even the headmaster knew of her involvement.
When she arrived at the school for magically gifted children she was admittedly at a loss. She had never lectured there and with limited information from her aunt, she was unsure of where to go. Thankfully there were some helpful students happy to point her in the direction of the administrations hall. At the end of a long, winding corridor was a door marked for the headmaster.
'Headmaster Merlin' it read.
She smiled at the thought of seeing the elderly wizard. It had been years since they had seen one another but they had maintained a friendship through correspondence. She'd heard he'd taken on the headmaster's position at Hexley Hall a few years back. It would be nice to work with him once again.
She raised an eager hand to rap at the door, waiting with a sway for the door to open. After a moment the portal swung open but Merlin was nowhere in sight.
“S-Sofia!?”
“Cedric!”
The princess lurched forward, throwing her arms around the sorcerer without a thought. The small bag she carried clattered to the floor, forgotten.
“What are you doing here!?” Cedric sputtered. “I thought you were mentoring young adventurers in Khaldoun!”
“Aunt Tilly needed me to fill in for her here. She's feeling under the weather so I'm giving the lecture in her place.” Sofia explained.
“Oh, yes! Merlin mentioned there was to be a special lecture in the grand hall. Something about enchanted literature, I believe. He's feeling a bit under the weather himself, you see. Asked me to fill in for him for the rest of the week.” Cedric pulled back from the princess' embrace to take in the sight of her. It had been far too long since he had last laid eyes on her. “How've you been, my dear?”
“I've been well. Traipsing around from place to place... wherever I'm needed.” She answered. “How about you? How have things been?”
“Well enough, I suppose.” Cedric replied with a shrug. “Its certainly not the same without you around.”
Sofia averted her eyes and bowed her head regretfully. “Cedric, I'm sorry. I know we-”
“You have nothing to apologize for. I understand that this is your calling and I don't mind waiting.” Cedric spoke softly. “I only wish you would come home for a visit more than once or twice a year. I didn't even know you were going to be back in Enchancia.”
“It was really last moment. I had no time to send word.” Sofia said with a sigh. “And I can't stay long. As soon as I'm finished here I have to return to Khaldoun. Then I'll be off to Freezenburg for about a month. I won't be home again until Wassalia.”
“O-oh.” Cedric lowered his gaze in disappointment. “I had hoped that we'd at least be able to have dinner and... well... i-it's been so long since we...”
Sofia blushed and turned her attention back to the sorcerer's disheartened face. Indeed, it had been so very, very long and she had missed him terribly. “Well, what about right now?”
“N-now!? Here!? I-in Merlin's office!?” Cedric croaked in surprise.
“I can't stay, Cedric, but I'm here right now.” She countered. “What time am I scheduled to give the lecture?”
Cedric cleared his throat and stepped over to Merlin's desk, flustered as he scanned the many notes the elderly wizard had left for him. He peered over the day's schedule and observed that the lecture was slotted for ten o'clock. Desperate eyes darted to the clock on the wall. Blessedly, it read 7:15.
His lips curled into a delighted, if not nervous smile and he turned his gaze back to the young woman who stared right back at him with an eager expression.
“It appears you do have some time before your lecture. Perhaps we should use the excess time to... catch up.” Cedric dribbled as he immediately took to clearing the paperwork from the surface of the desk.
Sofia grinned widely and closed the door to the office, finding the locking mechanism with ease. She advanced toward the sorcerer, unbuttoning her topcoat as she went. “So... do you want me to call you Headmaster?”

I want a spinoff of StF about Cedric's childhood with Roland, Cordelia, and Tilly (and Roland's late wife Lorelei, because I love the idea of those two growing up together).
It would take place before the Incident (presumably before Cedric began Hexley Hall). I'm not sure if Roland and Tilly began Royal Prep before Cedric started Hexley Hall.
Honestly, Craig Gerber and Disney, give us that!!
The only problem is, it might be a bit limiting because it wouldn't show Cedric at school.
